Our library already uses Facebook on a daily basis. Anne actually maintains it 99 percent of the time, but I will post information and update statuses when she is out of town. She seems to do a post everyday and sometimes several times a day to maintain a social media presence.
I know Anne also uses pinterest for Summer Reading ideas. I personally use goodreads on a daily basis, and I think our library will start using it more. I use it to discover new books to purchase sometimes, and also just to develop my knowledge of what's out there and what books and authors are similar to each other in order to give better recommendations.
For now, I think our library is most likely going to stick with just Facebook. While the other social media outlets certainly have their uses, in our community people don't particularly look to social media to find out about news, other than Facebook. In fact, I don't think I've ever met a single person who uses Twitter, although I have noticed alot of teens using Snapchat.
Anyway, this class had alot of good and useful information that will be helpful in the future.

Week 4
This week is instagram. I feel old because all the young and hip people use instagram. Except for me. But I at least know what it is!
Honestly, I had never thought about using instragram for the library. I did find some interesting ways to use it though:
One is the university of Oregon's instagram- http://instagram.com/uoregonlibraries#
They use it to promote events and pretty much just post cool pictures. There are lots of pictures from different places around campus, pictures inside the library from different angles, pictures of books with different filters on, etc. I imagine they have a good following given the fact that they are a college.
I found another random library using google again, this time it is the Park Library, one of UNC's libraries. They use instagram for the same thing, posting pictures of events and such. -
http://instagram.com//jomcparklib#
They also post pictures of events that are pertinent to the college as a whole, such as a picture of a "Beat Duke" pin.
All in all, I think instagram is a great tool to reach young people and makes sense for college libraries, and can make sense depending on your community. Here in Lead, we don't exactly have a tech savvy, young vibrant community, so our Facebook is so far the extent of our social media presence.

Week 3 assignment
For week 3 we are dealing with YouTube. I actually don't use YouTube very often in my personal time, I try to go on there and am overwhelmed with the endless amount of viewing material. I might however start using it at the library-
I found a whole series of videos on how to fix bindings, cover books, and all sorts of pertinent information to me, since I'm the primary processor. I don't know if the public will have any use or interest for these videos, but I know I will. Here is the link to my video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzhCgiRi2YU
It shows you how to reattach a book to its binding when it completely blows out, which has happened to our books before. I usually just put an excessive amount of glue on it and hope for the best, but now I know what I'm actually supposed to do.

week 2 assignment.
To be honest, I've never used pinterest and don't particularly want to either. As one of our reading assignments stated, something like 97 percent of pinterest users are women. I didn't even know what pinterest really was until I looked at some for this week.
One of the pinterest accounts I looked at was the Seattle Public Library. I chose SPL simply because they are a big, famous library. I found their pinterest through their website. Here is the URL-
https://www.pinterest.com/seattlelibrary/
They use it for a variety of topics and promotions. The most interesting one I found was one of historical photos of the old Seattle Public Library. There were also different topics of staff picks, new reads, and an entire board of "library cats". Gross.
Next, I googled library pinterest boards and randomly chose a library. I reached the Warren-Newport Public library pinterest account, which is evidently located in Gurnee, Illinois. I've never heard of Gurnee, IL nor the Warren-Newport public library, but they have quite the Pinterest presence. They had thanksgiving recipes " pinned", thanksgiving movies, movie categories of all sorts, and even a board dedicated to the much overlooked "culinary fiction" genre. Here is the URL-
https://www.pinterest.com/warrennewportpl/
In conclusion, I learned something new today. That being said, I don't think I have the willpower to force myself to actually use it for the library. Maybe Anne will!

Week 1 assignment.
Here's some things I've seen other libraries doing on facebook-
1. Promoting programs
2. Promoting new arrivals.
3. Posting general information about the library such as hours of operation, location, etc.
4. Promoting other community event's that aren't the libraries.

Intro for class
Ya'll know me.
I've had facebook since before it was cool, goodreads for a couple of years, and there is no way I'm ever getting a pinterest.
